SEG AWARDS LEVEL 1 – AWARD IN FASHION AND TEXTILES (500/4308/0)
This program (Industrial Machining) spans five weeks and is designed to provide instruction on the fundamental aspects of utilising various industrial sewing machines. Participants will learn how to set up and operate these machines safely, perform maintenance tasks, and determine the appropriate settings for different types of fabrics.
During the course, participants will gain hands-on experience in various sewing techniques, which will enable them to create a range of stitch samples. They will also receive instruction in measuring, cutting, and assembling a basic pattern while learning to differentiate between good and poor-quality work.

Course Content: Participants will engage with three units, each carrying four credits, ultimately leading to the attainment of the SEG Level 1 Award in Fashion and Textiles.
- Using Industrial Sewing Machinery (4 credits)
This unit focuses on developing skills in operating industrial sewing machinery. It covers the identification of key components in overlockers and flatbed straight stitch machines, correct threading techniques, bobbin insertion, tension adjustment, and the creation of various sewing tests.
- Industrial Sewing Operations (4 credits): Participants will further enhance their skills in using industrial sewing machinery, specifically with lockstitch machines. They will learn to produce a variety of seam and hem samples, join fabrics using overlockers, and adjust stitch tension to achieve desired finishes.
- Inspection of Finished Sewn Products (4 credits): This unit explores the inspection process for finished sewn products. Participants will be required to demonstrate their ability to inspect these products, recognizing both successful and unsuccessful outcomes. This entails identifying the necessary tools, machinery, and documents involved in the inspection process.
Teaching Approach: The course emphasizes hands-on learning from the outset, with an immediate focus on practical processes. Participants will receive an induction on Health and Safety procedures and policies to ensure a safe working environment among peers and instructors. Regular progress reviews will be conducted to ensure that participants are maximizing their learning experience.
Post-Course Opportunities: Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will have several options:
